Ballet Inspired Five Tier Wedding Cake with Ruffles, Ribbons and Blush Roses

One of the big trends for 2017 is ballet inspired weddings. Whether it's using the ribbons or ruffles, the beautiful feminine colours or something totally different, I can see why this is becoming more popular!

Here's a new design, with a ruffle base tier, alternating pink and ivory tiers and blush roses, finished with a luxurious satin ribbon. And I'm a huge fan of larger cakes, so I made it five tiers. Because I can. :)

Unicorn Cake - Definitely a 2017 Trend!!

I was lucky enough to be asked to make a birthday cake by my friend Lynette who owns Elenor Rose Bridal in Huddersfield. Her little girl Lola is crazy for unicorns, so I couldn't wait to make this cake for her!! A double height 7" round vanilla cake, covered with white chocolate ganache and buttercream for the mane.

I adored making this cake - here's hoping I get to make some more 😊🦄

Alice in Wonderland Inspired Wedding Cake

I love Lewis Carroll and his amazing stories of Alice, so was really inspired to create this Alice in Wonderland wedding cake with a bit of a glam touch!

With a gold sequin tier, edible lace and handmade sugar roses, this cake is whimsical yet glamorous, proving that themed wedding cakes don't have to be tacky. It even features a handmade sugar teacup and saucer as a topper, with sugar roses nestled inside.

Semi-Naked Wedding Cake with Edible Gold...

Semi-naked cakes are still a huge trend in the world of wedding cakes, presumably because there are so many ways to decorate them!

For this event, I created a bit of a combination, with one tier being traditionally iced then two semi-naked cake tiers sat on top. These were dusted with edible gold leaf to tie in with the gold lustre on the bottom tier, which was displayed on a tree stump adorned with lots of foliage. I went on a foraging mission to my friend Jane from Woo B Woo who kindly provided me with some fresh flowers to decorate it with too.

I'd seen (probably on Pinterest, though I forget where!) a golden hoop back drop and wanted to create my own as a display piece for this cake. One afternoon I went on a bit of a mad scavenger hunt and finally found a child's hula hoop. I then peeled all the horrible shiny stripy glitteryness off, sprayed it gold using some specialist paint spray and ta-da! I had a gold hoop. My very clever husband attached it to a block of wood for me so it would stand up unaided, and I decorated it with some fresh flowers and some foliage from my garden including rosemary and ivy. Doesn't it look fabulous!? I can see this making a lot more outings with me :)
